Our Story

Alder & Ash didn't start with a business plan. It started with an empty living room and a growing frustration.
We'd spent months scrolling through the same handful of big-box stores, looking for furniture that felt like us — pieces with some warmth, some texture, something that looked like it belonged to a person and not a showroom. Everything we found was either disposable-feeling or priced like an heirloom without actually being built like one. So we started looking elsewhere: small studios, independent woodworkers, weavers and potters who cared more about how something was made than how fast it could ship.
What began as furnishing one room turned into a habit, then an obsession, then Alder & Ash.
The name comes from two trees that couldn't be more different — alder, soft and workable, the wood turners reach for first; ash, dense and durable, the one you build a chair frame from knowing it'll outlast you. That's the balance we look for in everything we carry: pieces with warmth and pieces that hold up.
We're not trying to fill your home with more things. We're trying to help you fill it with fewer, better ones — sourced from makers who still believe a piece of furniture should earn its place in a room for years, not just a season.
That's still the whole idea behind Alder & Ash. Thank You!
